I was looking for a quick, light, fun book to read on a trip to see the fall leaves in the New England area. This book was enjoyable, and I finished the book on the plane. I don't believe you have to read the other books in the series to follow the plot.
The main characters are both dealing with very unpleasant events in their past, but I didn't think it overwhelmed the story. If anything, it gave the characters some depth.
