Part seaman’s documentary, part rousing adventurelogue - I don’t know what I really expected.  I have tried to read this in print before and never got far.  The audiobook was definitely the way to go.  That being said - it would have been a much shorter book if he’d cut out the long education and saved it for a future annotated version.  Still I enjoyed it. And was thoroughly unprepared for the end.  You’d think in my many moons of this life, I would have chanced upon spoilers.
