*I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion*

Several years ago, the Seven Prophets foretold a prophecy about The Age of Darkness, before disappearing from humanity. The Last prophet would either be the key to stopping The Darkness, or would destroy the world. Five teenagers are connected to this prophecy, and must figure out how to stop The Darkness before its to late.

The concept for this book was so intriguing to me but the execution ultimately fell flat. It felt like nothing happened, even though the book was quite lengthy. The first three quarters of the book were so slow, I was bored for the majority of the book. There seemed to be so many information dumps, I never truly came to care about anything, because I felt like I was just being shoved information the entire time without any emotion being fueled into it. The five POVs were interesting enough, but I truly only cared for 3 of the 5 characters. Ephyra, better known as The Pale Hand, is the anti-hero of the story. She assassinates those who have wronged in some way in order to save her dying sister, Beru. Unfortunately, we barely learn any information about Beru, other than she is dying, which is one of the biggest downfalls to this book in my opinion. I also really enjoyed Jude and Anton as well. When their stories become entwined, I was finally invested in the story. Hassan was my least favourite of the five, and honestly didn't care much about what happened to him. I was very disappointed in the hype surrounding the villain, the Heirophant, and how they were using their army of Witnesses to eradicate the world of The Graces. but then there was such a lack of on page scenes with them actually in it. There just felt like there was such a buildup about how evil and powerful they were, which ultimately ended up as nothing truly special.

I will be reading the sequel, as I have an ARC of it, but I don't have the highest hopes for it.
