Ivey's writing is beautiful in its ability to write about the simple. She describes a scene so that the reader could smell the environment. It was very easy to visualize the story as I was listening.
That being said, this book was not for me. I'm not a fan of trauma and how it entangles itself into many relationships. All I could think while listening was how multiple adults were letting down this little girl. I did not connect with any character and was not a fan of the ending.
I can appreciate the decisions that were made in the writing but I was just not the proper audience to embrace them.
