Ever since I first read the adult novelization of Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith back in 2005, I have thought it was the best movie novelization I have ever read. And I still stand by that statement. There is so much extra content in these pages that only enhances the story and any subsequent movie viewings. Not only that but there are these broader views or statements being made between chapters and such that really offer comments on the situation of the galaxy and its denizens. I loved getting inside the heads of Anakin, Obi-Wan, Dooku, Mace, and more, and seeing ‘how it feels to be them right now’. It is remarkable character depth that brings greater understanding as you progress through the story and continue to get more. I also loved the little discussions of light and dark that opened up each part, as these also build off each other as the story continues.
Having read it again, but this time with the knowledge of Labyrinth of Evil and the Clone Wars comics, I can see all this beautiful interconnectedness. Events that took place in those stories are mentioned here and the ramifications are felt in Episode III. It also plays at things that will come into being in the Original Trilogy. If you haven’t read Labyrinth of Evil or the Clone Wars comics, you won’t feel like you’re missing something, because there’s still enough to bridge that gap, but you may find yourself seeking to know more afterwards. And that is utterly to this book’s credit.
As much as watching the movie hurts your heart, knowing how dark things will get, this book will only double that pain as you get even more character interaction, especially that between Anakin and Obi-Wan. I will always recommend this book to any Star Wars fan, especially those who want to get even more out of the story and their movie viewing.
