To Catch an Earl by Kate Bateman

I usually read Fantasy/Sci-fi but I wanted to slowly move away from those genres as well as YA but I wanted to read something that was easy to follow and had an interesting plot. Then when I was recommended this book I was a little hesitant because I didn’t know what it was about and it was my first adult historical romance…..but once I read the first few pages I knew I was going to enjoy it.

What I liked:
I like the feeling of cat vs. mouse and the forbidden love trope that is shown through the main characters' dynamic in this book, with one being a thief and the other being a detective. I liked how both characters were not stuck up and stiff, but instead, they were funny and loose, while having hectic thoughts that added a bit of realistic and relatable elements that made it easier to understand the characters.

What I did not like:
It was so predictable that it almost made me want to stop reading, especially at the end, I found myself saying “I see the solution…how are you not seeing what i’m seeing.... Why are you making this 10x harder for yourself…” alot. This made me frustrated with the characters and it made the read less enjoyable.

Overall, it was a short and entertaining read but I don't think I will read the other books in this series anytime soon.
