The Girls on the Shore by Ann Cleeves

mysterious reflective medium-paced
It’s a short story featuring DCI Matthew Venn as he encounters two girls on the beach in front of his house.
PROS:
  • In true Ann Cleeves fashion, it had great atmosphere and characters.
  • Gives a bit more insight about Matthew and Jo’s background. Good for fans of the series.
CONS:
  • It feels like it should be a novel rather than a short story.
  • The reveal
about the older girl being a psychopath
is underwhelming. I think a longer story would’ve made it better.
