Winning the War in Your Mind: Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life
by Craig Groeschel
medium-paced
This book was not for me. To start with the positives, I like that the author references scientific facts such as the brain’s neuroplasticity, how cognitive bias affects our day-to-day, and how we can get into ruts of thinking. However, the application is sorely lacking. Things like memorize Scripture, practice gratitude, and pray more are great advice BUT for many Christians with anxiety this is not the whole answer. It certainly wasn’t for me. Not once did I see the author mention mental illness, anxiety disorders, or medication. In fact, if you read this book you may come away feeling like your anxiety is your own fault because you don’t trust God enough. And that’s an intensely harmful idea. I’m giving 2 stars because I think for Christians with standard worry issues it could be helpful, but that does not outweigh the potential harm for those with anxiety disorders.
