Neverhome by Laird Hunt
5.0

Hunt's protagonist is fascinating: during the American Civil War, she disguises herself in Union blues and goes off to serve in lieu of her husband. Along the way, the soldier who is trying to blend in distinguishes herself again and again. At times disjointed and surreal (can't wait to discuss in book club whether she was delusional during certain critical events), Neverhome brings home war from a whole new perspective.
