An enjoyable, quick, moody scifi western with quirky characters.
The majority of the novel is split into a series of shorter sequential stories, with the main character playing a part in each one. She's a pretty familiar trope if you're familiar with Clint Eastwood westerns, or with Cowboy Bebop; you know everything you need to know about her role in the story just from the attitude, the outfit, and the sidearm. It's only gradually over time that we get to dig a little deeper into her character, and into the overarching plot.
It's not quite long enough to really have much emotional weight, the conflicts never leave the comfort of familiar tropes, things ultimately wrap up predictably neatly, and I'm not sure it had a lasting impact; but none of those things are necessarily bad. I liked it and it left me feeling pretty warm and fuzzy afterwards, and that's really what counts.
I'm definitely giving the author's next work a try.
