Fruit Of Knowledge: The Vulva vs. The Patriarchy
by Liv Strömquist
dark
funny
informative
My German friend gifted me this book, which is one of the only ones by this author that has been translated into English.
I was initially hesitant because of the tendency to associate vulvas with womanhood (i.e. when white feminists use pussy hats & uteruses to represent all women...). However this author does a great job of questioning the gender binary and the validity of associating genitalia with gender.
Highly recommend! A creative, funny, historical, and dark exploration of the role of the patriarchy in policing female bodies, in graphic novel format.
Favorite sections: Top 7 men who have been TOO interested in "female genitalia", the deep dive into historical civilizations that venerated the vulva, & the history of the female orgasm.
