Twilight / Life and Death by Stephenie Meyer
3.0
An interesting experiment for Stephenie Meyer in answer to her critics responding to the male female stereo types of the first version. Meyer always insisted that this was a love story and could work both ways and now she is trying to prove the point. On the whole she does prove that it works as a story with the gender reversals, it is a love story, however the problem I have is that it doesn't quite work for me in terms of enjoyment of the story. The shameful reality is that I love the original so much because I imagine myself in the position of Bella and I just can't do that with a male lead and on a technical note, I hated the name choices. The interesting thing to note is that many of the issues that people had with Bella came in the later books which of course this change doesn't address. At the end of the day we just need 'midnight sun'.
