skyhai 's review for:
Aposimz, Volume 1
by Tsutomu Nihei
This had a lot of potential for me even if I was going in mostly blind. A sci-fi where people try to survive in a harsh planet's wilderness? Count me in. Except...that's not really what the book was about. Instead of a group of people surviving together, the inciting incident is death (minus points for killing off the singular black character first).
You get introduced at a distance to people who have contracted 'frame disease' which looks like a zombie virus of some sort. Then the characters talk about trying to become a 'regular frame' and we're given no inclination of what that means.
Apparently regular frames just get cool bio armor, unless you are the main female character in which case you get a corset with an open back and thigh highs.
I love a good manga or graphic novel, but this one was too much explaining unnecessary things while leaving me in the dark about things I really felt I needed to know to understand what was happening. I don't see myself picking up the rest of this series.
