The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem

This book was a really slow start for me. There is SO MUCH world building and information dumping that happens in the beginning of the book that it got a little confusing. Then, the plot started picking up around 20%, and then we burst into hundreds of pages of more info-dumping and preparing for these trials. The trials were such a small portion of the book but approximately half the book was spent just prepping for them, and we really don't get to see much of them when they are going on. They are super quick and fast, and then we get more info-dumping after each trial!

I am fine with the relationship between Essiya and Arin but it's not really drawing much interest for me. It is (marketed as) slow burn-ish but Essiya saying she loves him?? Come on, girl!! Straight up insta-love right there, they barely know each other. However, I LOVED the end. I loved that dramatic reveal in the last chapter of Essiya revealing who she is in a huge ballroom and then having an insane display of magic - we love that! I was also rooting for her to team up with the Urabi the whole time, I knew she was going to do it so I am very happy about that! I think Sefa and Marek were just...disappeared?? We hear nothing else other than Essiya literally snapping her fingers and evaporating them so hopefully she took them with her! I also loved the epilogue that was in Arin's POV! I think the other two Arin POV interludes we had really didn't do much for the story, but the epilogue was great and I really enjoyed seeing his anger. Maybe next book will be split POV? I am interested to see more of Arin's perspective/worldview.

I think this book set up a really interesting sequel, so I am excited to read it! The one thing I want the most for the sequel is for Essiya and Arin to have a huge battle (for the drama, of course).
