This book is the second book of the World Walker trilogy and I'm happy to say that it is definitely a step up from the first. I did enjoy this book better than the first book in the series, however I there were still a few problems for me.

As this is the second book, it is absolutely vital that you read the first book, otherwise you won't understand this book at all. We continue to follow the story of Lily and Rowan after they world jump from Rowan’s world to Lily’s world at the end of the first book. However, Lillian had not given up and is remains persistent to remain on top. It is a vague summary but anything more and I risk spoiling the book.

In contrast to the first book, I found myself finally connecting a little more with the characters. I think you particularly connect with Lily and Lillian. You explore both of their points of views and I enjoyed learning what has driven Lillian to do the things that she is doing.

This brings up a very interesting topic of whether someone's actions are always wrong and the importance of understanding why they have chosen to do this. It also makes the reader consider it they would take those same actions if they were in the same position. This is definitely a battle you see Lily struggle with throughout the book.

Another improvement from the first book are the other characters and their interactions. In the first book, you didn't really see the characters interact very much and though they may have in the background of the plot, the reader didn't actually get to see that, resulting in the relationships between the characters to feel unnatural or forced. This book did show a little more and it made me cherish those relationships a bit more, but ultimately, it still wasn't as fulfilling as I would have liked.

One thing I was happy to see was that we finally get some answers. The first book was incredibly ambiguous and ended with lots of questions and things that just did not seem to make sense. I still have lots of questions, however a lot of answers were given in this book which I am thankful about. The answers were teased for a very long time which wasn't as nice but there are some nice twists that I definitely did not expect.

Similar to the first book, I found the writing was very fast paced and it was lacking depth. It all felt very surface level and when describing important events or strong emotions, it all feels extremely rushed. This left me feeling unsympathetic to the characters situations and their emotions. I didn't get a chance to sit with their emotions and connect and feel it.

Once again, due to the fast pace I suspect, the speed of the acceptable of magic with some character just made me roll my eyes. It was unrealistic that you get told about magic and all these magical creatures and world and you just say, yeah. I believe you. In fact, let me join you and train with you as well.

Like the first book, the ending of the book is probably the most hooking part of the book. The ending of this book was, again rushed, but has an amazing cliffhanger which makes me want to immediately start the next book. It was incredibly suspenseful to end it off where it did, so props to the author for the ending.

I have the next book with me and will definitely keep reading thanks to the ending of the book. I still didn't LOVE the characters but I definitely felt more connected with them. I think the writing is the one thing that's putting me off because of how it lacks depth. I am determined to finish this trilogy and figure out what happens and how it all resolves.
