Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

4.0

tldr: Unrelatable men, cold women, and how fortune blesses those who suffer with pride

Honestly, 2 out of 2 main male characters of this book are so repulsive in their own way. Mr Rochester is simply too much and what even is St John?:DD Jane Eyre was pretty badass if not for her tendency to do the right thing, which for her, always meant suffering. The love story is romantic in a very - surprise, surprise - classical way, which I should've learnt to appreciate by now considering most of my books are classics. But I guess it's not happening soon.

The writing style was so beautiful. It was so intricate and physical you could almost feel every passage, every line. Delightful.

"He has told me I am formed for labour - not for love: which is true, no doubt. But, in my opinion, if I am not formed for love, it follows that I am not formed for marriage. Would it not be strange, to be chained for life to a man who regarded one but as a useful tool?"
