Every Davis book I read has at least one detail that I don't think I will ever forget. For this one, it was his description of a process called "dry eviction" where slumlords in Manila bathe stray cats in kerosene and chase them flaming into slums they want to clear. Both an well-researched abstract and a terrifyingly concrete account of the barbarism of our century and what caused it.
