adventurous informative reflective

To me this felt like more of a time capsule than a history -- the first (and longest) section of the book was written in the 1990s, the second in 2015, and both are very much informed by contemporary events. It does make for a fascinating read and helps get at the roots of what is going on now in Ukraine. I'm curious to see if the author does another pass through Ukraine in five or six years as a follow-up; I would love to read that.
