Oh my goodness I loved this book so much! Within a few chapters I was completely sucked in and couldn’t put it down. The writing, the characters, the plot, the setting are all so beautiful and mesmerizing. I absolutely adore Miryem and Irina, they are so badass just as ordinary women in incredibly difficult circumstances. Even in a fantasy setting every woman can feel in their bones the struggles these characters faced. The desperate need for just an ounce of safety in a world where daughters and wives are just pawns and possessions. The burning desire for some tiny bit of control over their own destinies. It’s so palpable and so relatable despite the fact that their fears are in the form of magic and demons. The whole effect is such a fantastic blend of fairytale, folk lore, and reality and I loved every second of it!
