The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

5.0

“Are you lost or are you exploring?”

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern is her latest published work, successor to The Night Circus. Both whimsical magical-realism stories, and both books I really loved.

The Starless Sea follows Zachary who, after finding a book containing a tale of his own childhood, decides to follow the clues being left for him by mysterious strangers. After that, magic ensues and Zachary gets acquainted to a world he never believed existed. Along Zachary, we follow Dorian and Mirabel and later, Zacharys friend Kat.

Of all those protagonists Zachary was definitely my favorite, with Dorian being a close second. Their relationship warmed my heart while it was not the main part of the plot, which made it even better.

Loved the stories intermissioning the real plot, especially The Ballad of Simon and Eleanor. How all the stories tied together like pieces of the same puzzle was amazing, and proved further how much of a mastermind Erin Morgenstern really is.

The ending was fulfilling, while managing not to disappoint either the reader not the story itself. I can’t wait for more from Erin Morgenstern. She’s the definition of my reading taste.
