Rules of Seduction by Joya Ryan

4.0

Seventh in the Serve series, but the first from Joya Ryan--and hooo boy, what a way to continue/start in the series! It works fine as a standalone, but if you've read other books, a few characters pop in and out and a couple of prior scenes are alluded to...there's nothing you'd need to have read to make this story complete, though--so, great place to start if you're a newbie.

A quick read with a relatively short timeline, Ms. Ryan still totally made me buy into Ava and Nolan's relationship despite their major hangups and the fact that they didn't know each other all that long from start to finish. Their relationship(s) were intense, though, as was their connection, so she had me convinced!

I liked the touch of humor the author brought to the story; Nolan has just the right amount of charming snark--the scene where he shows up at Ava's door just after the huge box of complimentary sex toys (her marketing firm is working on developing a campaign for their company) is just too funny! Their "scenes" in the club are really more about learning to trust and giving up control in a safe environment than true BDSM; they make for a sexy yet sweet story.

Anxiously awaiting the next installment in the series--bring it on!
