The Anomaly by Michael Rutger

4.0

It's been a while since I've read Michael Marshall Smith, who this is by.

It was good to get back to him. This novel is kind of a cross between Indiana Jones and X-Files and there is rarely a dull moment.
It's the story of a YouTube journalist/pseudo archeologist who, along with his crew, is in search of a cavern in the Grand Canyon that had previously been discovered in the early 1900s to contain mysterious artifacts that may change the way we understand how humans came to North America...and perhaps more.

The mystery throughout most of the novel was extremely enticing. And Marshall's, errr...Rutger's writing chops made me feel uncomfortably claustrophobic at times. His characters were aptly drawn out and the whole reading experience was quite fun.

A strong four-star read. I'm not sure if I'll continue the series, but either way I'm satisfied with this as a standalone.
