Brainwyrms
by Alison Rumfitt
At the end of the novel I was ready to give this amazingly disgusting read one star. Now it's four stars (as if anyone cares). I think I know where the violence, the horror, and the desolation come from. Most of the transphobia described is taken from real life. Some comments may even be quoted verbatim. The novel appears to me like a very personal comment on the unhinged transphobia we witness not only in the USA - literally everywhere. Need I mention a certain JKR? The "bathroom" dicussion during the 2016 election in the USA (bathrooms are a recurring theme in the novel)? Violence, murder, discrimination? Though the plot may be hard to follow at times - the novel has something very powerful and authentic. I should read it a second time - now that the shock is over.
The hardest parts to read were not the wyrms parts btw.
