A big switch-up from my usual reads—I wasn’t sure how to feel about it at first. But Danler’s writing is undeniably vivid, almost poetic, painting a gritty and mesmerizing picture of Tess’s world. The novel had a dark, uneasy undertone that left me genuinely worried for her at times. It’s not a light read, but if you’re in the mood for something artsy and thought-provoking, this one definitely lingers.
