The Undocumented Americans by Karla Cornejo Villavicencio

emotional informative reflective fast-paced

5.0

THE UNDOCUMENTED AMERICANS is hands down one of my favorite reads of this year. I’m made it took me so long to get to this book, because it’s just that incredible.

The stories that Villavicencio tells in this book. The honest, beautiful, and hard to hear stories of how undocumented people are treated in the United States is absolutely heartbreaking. I feel like this book should be required reading for every US citizen.

The politicization of borders and people has caused so many to forget that undocumented people are PEOPLE. They have families, they have feelings, their lives are just as important as a person born on this side of an arbitrary line.

Reading this made me angry, but it also made me feel so much awe and respect for the communities that have been built to protect, shelter, and love these people. We need more of that.

So basically, if you’re sleepin’ on this one… GO READ IT.
