The Book of Cold Cases
by Simone St. James
The Book of Cold Cases | Simone St. James
Pub Date: 15/05/22
The Book of Cold Cases is the latest standalone by bestselling author of The Sun Down Motel.
I’ve seen this one advertised widely so when a copy came in from my local library, I dropped everything to read it. I’d read the author’s earlier works, The Sun Down Motel and while I enjoyed it, I wasn’t as wowed as I had anticipated.
This one by far exceeds all my expectations. A twisty, supernatural mystery with just the right amount of chills, thrills and murder. The paranormal elements are there but don’t overshadow the mystery so this one will appeal to both horror and mystery fans.
The book features dual timelines and alternating POVs. The two main characters are both strong, likeable and complex woman who you will want to get to know. Shea is a true crime fanatic who lands an interview with the infamous Beth Greer who was accused and acquitted of two murders. In 1977, the Lady Killer shot and killed two men in cold blood. Many believe that Beth is guilty, but is there more to what happened than has come out. Parts are told from Beth’s perspective and give us a first hand account of her arrest and aftermath.
The book was fast-paced and engaging to read. It has a little bit of something for everyone, horror, mystery, crime, romance, suspense and much much more. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up, you won’t regret it.
