first of all, this rating was given an extra star purely because the plane crashes in greeley, colorado. the town i was born and raised in. that was so weird too see the little connection made to me in this book! with that being said, i felt more excitement in reading those two words than i felt the entire time reading this story combined. i’m sorry, but with a topic as crazy as a plane crash with one sole survivor, this book was incredibly boring. not to mention super unrealistic (not even to mention the fact that there even was a sole survivor in a plane crash that ripped limbs off other flyers and this one kid survived purely because of the seat he was sitting in. no i’m talking about some event that took place after that) i will get into that in my spoilers below. this book just wasnt for me. but i can admit a good story and message when i see it. maybe the fact i listened to most of this in audio book is what messed it up for me. maybe i need to give it another chance?

Do you really expect me to believe that 190 people wrote to this 13 year old kid asking him to fulfill their dead loved ones hopes and dreams?? do you seriously expect me to believe that? that someone would write to a 13 year old kid who just lost their entire family and survived a horrific, trauma zing event asking him to open a comedy club in a small town in wisconsin because that what’s their kid wanted to do? and then someone else asked for this 13 year old kid to walk the wall or china? and become a doctor? i genuinely cant imagine people would actually push this on someone who also lost their entire family. it just made me roll my eyes cause wtf? also my other beef and at the beginning of the book it said the plane crashed in “flat landed northern colorado”. bro. northern colorado is all mountain. and if the plane crashed in colorado (the fucking middle of the us) why was the author talking about flying over the ocean and stuff? new york to la does not have ocean between or am i that uneducated in geography? god i hope this doesn’t put me in a reading slump. i loved the concept of this book, and i thought reading about survivors guilt and edwards journey would an amazing read but i don’t feel it was executed as well as it could have been. what i liked was the healing aspect of the aunt and uncles relationship and that fact that edward and shay end up together in the end. i really was glad to see those happy endings and edwards coping in a way where suicide never ever crossed his mind. that was really heartfelt to see. 3 stars!!
