Illuminae by Jay Kristoff, Amie Kaufman
4.0

This book was a strange one for me. Illuminae is told in transcripts and emails and documents, basically any form of text you can think of other than prose or poetry. It’s definitely unique but, due to the lack of depth into the characters’ insights, this took me a long long time to really get going. I think it was about 250 pages in that I felt like I actually cared about the story, which is not really what you want from a book.

However, once I did get going I fell in love, fast and hard. This book is incredible and I ended up loving the unique style and turning pages faster than I had in a long time. There were moments that were absolutely beautiful and the presentation of the story isn’t something that is going to leave my mind for a long time.
