A Promised Land by Barack Obama

5.0

I have a very rudimentary understanding of politics and government and have read a few other politician autobiographies so I figured this would follow the same formula but was pleasantly surprised at how educational this book was. Not only does he explain his rationale, he covers the political climate, motives and policies in place that made that decision work or not work. I also appreciated the few moments when he reflected on choices he made that he regretted and reading what he may have done differently or wished he had done.
I finished this book with a solid understanding of what exactly happened during the housing crisis, why medicare was so difficult to pass and how bills get pushed through the House & Senate as well as personal anecdotes about each of these events from Obama’s recounting.
