Black Orchid by Neil Gaiman
4.0

This was the first major collaboration between Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean and the results are breathtaking. The art and mystery is astounding. The sense of color alone is so symbolic and telling. In many ways you can feel the major Gaiman themes in this, one of his early major works: the beauty and primacy of nature and a gentle but strange fantastical backdrop... and a love of overturning a typical climax with a more meaningful contemplative resolution.

Maybe I’m spoiled with later Gaiman, but I feel that this story could have been pushed to be a little tighter, so that’s why I put it at a 4/5.
