The Half King
by Melissa Landers
emotional
hopeful
mysterious
tense
fast-paced
While I enjoyed the premise of this story, I'm not too sure about the pacing. Everything seemed to happen really quickly with too much ease.
The relationship between Kian and Cerise seemed to develop too fast - I feel like it could have been slowed down, building more tension.
I did however enjoy the last few chapters - whilst the pace was still a bit too fast, I enjoyed the twists.
I thought we'd find out Cerise's father was someone other than Padron, so I thought it was a fun twist to realize her sister was actually her mother, and her parents were her grandparents. This genuinely surprised me - I think mainly because I hadn't noticed that her sister was that much older.
I also was surprised by the epilogue - throughout the book, the stakes remained fairly low, with no consequences for what happened, so when her sister died, and didn't immediately come back, I was quite surprised.
I didn't think I'd be interested enough to read book 2 but tbh the last sentence kinda got me.
