Shadows Beneath: The Writing Excuses Anthology
by Brandon Sanderson
Some very good short stories by talented authors. I really liked all of them except "I.E.Demon" as it wasn't very interesting and the prose was a bit strange. Plus all the military jargon was a little too much.
"A Fire in the Heavens" by Mary Kowal was my favorite. A very cool premise and an intriguing plot and world. It left me wanting more.
"Sixth of the Dusk" was great as well. Sanderson is one of my favorite authors, but I feel this is one of his weaker works. I don't feel it had a very solid ending and it some of the story elements werent' quite wrapped up as neatly for a short story. Outside of that it was a very intriguing short fantasy story set in a unique jungle/island setting. Very cool.
I probably had the most fun reading "An Honest Death" as the POV character was very entertaining and the premise was very creative and very awesome. It was a very fast-paced, tight, story.
