We Are All Completely Fine
by Daryl Gregory
Quick read while I was at work. The story unravels creatively in the setting of a group therapy with 5 people and their psychologist, each having survived an otherworldly, traumatic past. Gregory gives the reader an accurate and immersive insight into how a group therapy is like, playing on each person's character and how they interact with each other in the group. As we learn about how each character has a part to play in future events untold, we also watch their bond with each other grow and watch them each confront their past in the ways that they choose to.
This story really engaged me with the characters' clear voices and their struggles with overcoming their past! As a psychology undergrad, I really appreciate the research done on the rules, steps, boundaries, and ethical issues of group therapy; if I could read this for school it'd make things so much more fun! I've not yet read Harrison Squared, and it made me so interested in the world of Harrison and his monsters.
