A Dangerous Place by Jacqueline Winspear

Oh Maisie,
I leave you alone for one book and your life falls apart!
But I loved the way the updates came as letters and telegrams to set the stage for this next book. I don't think I could have handled reading about these events in story form. Too painful.
Maisie tries to reconstruct her life in this novel and has to, in effect, start over. She mentally revisits her relationships with her past mentors and the important lessons each has taught her.
All this takes place in Gibraltar and Spain, just as the bombing of Guernica occurs. Once more, I learn history via Maisie Dobbs.
