Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz

5.0

This was really fantastic. I don't know why I don't raid friend's Goodreads lists more often, stalking their 5 star reviewed books and diving in. Magpie Murders was rated 5 stars on three of my friend's lists on here, which is pretty unheard of, and once I found the audiobook, I dove right in.

I went into this blind, only knowing it was a Sherlock Holmes type murder mystery. I won't give anything away, but going in blind makes it much better considering the drastic 180 turn the narration and storytelling takes midway through. This unexpected added storytelling element is what made Magpie Murders so great for me and really stand out as one in the genre I'll always be excited to use as my answer to anyone asking what's a good modern day detective novel?
