The Road to Character
by David Brooks
I took notes while I was reading this which is a sign to me that it's a book worth reading. The meticulous way that Brooks conducted research into little-known historical figures demonstrates his commitment to portraying the struggle of moral life with skepticism for heroes. He celebrates lives but doesn't put them on moral pedestals - which validates the road he lays out for morality along their guidelines.
Definitely worth reading if you're interested in a more humanist view of historical figures as well as gaining a few mottos for living your life.
