When I finished The Serpent & The Wings of Night, I had the worst book hangover! I was dying to continue the series, but didn’t want to burn through it too quickly. I’m glad I waited to start The Ashes & The Star Cursed King, because I finished it as fast as I predicted I would.
I loved both books in the Nightborn duology. The first I loved for the violent trials, angst, slow-burn tension, and jaw-dropping ending. The second I loved for its themes of grief, love, forgiveness/acceptance, and the ending. I loved howRaihn and Oraya were able to bring the Rishan and Hiaj together in the end, and that the coriatis bond made a reappearance in book 2. I also loved that we learned more about Vincent; learning about his relationship with Oraya’s mom and his complicated feelings towards Oraya made his character feel much more real .
I rated The Ashes & The Star Cursed King lower than I did The Serpent & The Wings of Night; it was still a great story, but not as compelling as the first (for me, personally). I wish this book had more chapters from Raihn’s POV.
