I don't even remember how I made the decision of putting a hold on this audiobook, but when it finally became available, I wasn't expecting much. Really, I thought this was going to be a filler book between books. I didn't know anything about the author and I thought it would be a fun way to learn something. But this turned out to be such a phenomenal book and even though it's a couple weeks into January, I have a feeling this is going to be one of the best books of my year. It has such an interesting format, part biological tale and exploration, part memoir. I found each creature fascinating and appreciate the ease and simplicity that the author has in educating us about them. I am not "science-y" by any means, but was able to understand and admire the marvels and feats of each creature. That alone would be a fantastic read, but the parallels that the author draws between these sea creatures and their own life (as well as other fellow humans) adds such depth that makes this a book that transcends above the rest. I simply can't rave enough about this book and the author. I am excited to read their first book and see what else they come out with!
