Thoughts while reading:
- 15 minutes in and then m already crying.
- The extent of the suffering in Gaza is so bad that it’s almost incomprehensible to me; it’s the little things that get to me - the indignity of not being able to get your nails done, wash your hair, wear a cute outfit, do you skincare routine because you’re being bombed to death.
- It’s the small stories that get to me: taking a photo with a little girl who’s inspired by her, eating a candy heart bracelet with other journalists - and the fact that she doesn’t know if most of the people she’s met/interviewed/crossed paths with are alive or not.
- Catching the Frankston line to meet another Gazan friend for coffee at Brunettis after both being evacuated.
- After reading A Bunker in Kiev and hearing Ukrainians experiences - it’s abundantly clear that what’s happening in Palestine isn’t a war but a genocide: these people are completely defenceless and powerless to the occupying Israeli forces.
All these stories in the book are so important please read 🥺
