A Crooked Mark by Linda Kao is a fantastic debut YA novel about a teen boy who begins to question his father's holy mission of wiping "the Marked" off the planet to save innocent souls. But when Matthew meets the latest target, his worldview begins to shift as he asks himself: Is his father really on a quest from God to stop Lucifer from wreaking havoc, or is he just another deluded serial killer leaving nothing but death in his wake?

A Crooked Marked was a quick read, one which took just an afternoon. It was also an enjoyable read, I didn't fully expect the ending we got, but I have to say I liked it. I have been reading books lately that leave things a bit too ambiguous for my personal tastes, so I enjoyed the way Kao wrapped up the story. I also see room for this to be the start of a series if Kao wished, but also an excellent stand-alone novel.
