This book was sadly not was I was expecting. I think I would have preferred a prequel to see Amina in her pirating days and then had this book to be excited about collecting her old crew and going on a new adventure. Not a slow reveal of the past.
If you want sailing and seafaring, this book has very little. I also was intrigued to read this because promotions talked about a cat on board, there is one but makes rare appearances.
I had little connection to the characters, I liked Dalila, but we didn't get a lot of time with her crew. It was all Amina.
Overall It was an underwhelming read for me. It was okay, but I just didn't jive with it the way I thought I would.

Graphic: Violence
Minor: Kidnapping
