Lassiter by J.R. Ward

3.0

Honestly, I'm sort of glad that I read other people's reviews and spoilers ahead of time, that way I could be fully prepared for what happened in this book. The alleged relationship in this book is boring, Ravena (I don't know the spelling or care) doesn't make sense, she just appeared previously and keeps manifesting all these abilities with no explanation. Lassiter was better on his own, not all of these characters needed a relationship because it adds nothing to them in the long run.

I think overall it's pretty obvious there was no long term goal for the series because all of the big changes that have happened seem to get undone in an effort to return to a familiar plotline. The omega, people's deaths, various near deaths, none of it really matters because the whole thing will be undone to set up a new generation with the same stuff. They'll probably be exact copies of their parents too.

I have a big gripe though because I feel like they'll set this entire world up 30 years in the future and Ward is still going to use 2023-ish references and technology. I'm not sure how she'll manage that one because the timeline of the entire book series (4 or 5 years at most) compared to the timeline of publication (almost 20 years) is very different yet the references are always current. Honestly this didn't bother me until I saw someone else mention it. Now I can't stop thinking about why a storyline likely taking place ca. 2010 would mention Tiktok or the most recent Taylor Swift music. It's lazy.
