The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison

dark sad slow-paced

4.75

There’s one sentence to say: Can you believe that something so beautifully written and heart wrenching is a debut novel? And it shows.

I’ll be honest, the only reason this book doesn’t have a 5 star rating is because I thought it was slow-paced. The beginning really showcases this, and if my teacher hadn’t given it to me, I may have quit. But I’m glad I stuck with it because this book is beautiful and one of the best books I’ve ever read. The part where we learn about Pecola’s parents' lives and the ending was extremely heartbreaking.

Toni Morrison deserved that Nobel Prize.
