I really wanted to like this book, but something about it came across as very immature. There was something about how things were written that felt disingenuous, self important, and/or written because the author was trying to force a specific response from her reader. 

The detail in which she described her mom trying to saw off her own arm and the whole chapter on lice, felt out of place and left me feeling icky.
