Honestly the premise was promising, finding a random book that describes something very close to home.

Unfortunately after that, I lost interest. I put this book down for awhile before coming back to it.

At it’s core, the story being pinned on Catherine is that she’s a shitty mother and had an affair. There’s a lot being put the on the fact that Jonathan was 19 and she was older. But when you think about the fact that she was 22 when she met Robert, who was much older than her, isn’t it the same scenario?

The fact that they are blaming everything on her when the situation was much more nuanced than that had me annoyed the whole book. I felt like everyone was over reacting to a situation they didn’t know the whole story of.

If we believed the initial set of lies told to us, Catherine is a bad person. But does that mean she should be psychologically tortured and her life ruined? It’s not like she purposefully drowned Jonathan. Not to mention he made a choice to sleep with her, and people seem to gloss over that. By technicality he was a grown ass man who could make choices. And he made them. That is not her fault whether she “seduced” him or not.

Of course we learned that this whole story was false and that Catherine was forced to have sex with Jonathan.

Honestly everyone in this story was shitty. But I did feel for Catherine because she was forced to speak on something she did not want to. That she should not have had to. All because some old man got the wrong story.

He got to die and move on after ruining her whole life.

Also fuck Robert, I hate people with that name and this proves it.

I almost DNF’d this book a few times and I’m so glad I’m done with it
