The Scorpion Rules by Erin Bow
3.0

I had high hopes for The Scorpion Rules. The back cover description sounded really intriguing and I was excited to get the book and get started reading. And it really does have a great premise - in the future the world is run by AIs (artificial intelligence). In order to keep peace, they keep the child of every king, president, prime minister, national leader in compounds. If 2 nations declare war, the children of those leaders are killed. Greta is 16 months from turning 18 and being able to return to her kingdom. However, her nation is teetering on the brink of war with another nation and the world can change in an instant.

Like I said, a great story idea. Unfortunately, the story fell flat for me. I kept reading, waiting for the twists and turns and shockers. Instead the story basically went in a straight line and ended up ... blah. The romance was not only annoying, but unnecessary. Greta flip-flops back and forth from page to page and never really becomes a likable, or even fully developed, character. So, overall I was disappointed in The Scorpion Rules.
