This is a book that drew me in and made me wish I knew more about linguistics, even though I (at times) struggle to shake off the rigidity of my mother’s eternal insistence on formal writing. Even as somebody who’s been on the Internet for more than a quarter-century now, I found myself learning bits about informal English (especially as found on the Internet) that I hadn’t fully understood yet from finding them in context. I only wish this book were longer, because I’m not ready to stop learning from the author. (Maybe I should dig into the old episodes of the podcast she cohosts (since I’ve run out of pages from this book to read!)
