The Queen's Secret by Melissa de la Cruz

2.0

Shadow, now Queen Lilac after her marriage to King Hansen, is the untrusted foreigner in her new kingdom, despite the peace she was meant to bring. Cal, frustrated with the fact that he can't truly have her, is forced to protect Lilac & her husband as tensions grow in the kingdom, amidst the rumors that the queen is cursing the land. With the mysterious Deian scrolls still missing, the Aphrasians grow bolder in their attacks. Little do Cal & Lilac know the danger is much closer to home than they think.

I was so disappointed in this book. The Queen's Assassin was so good and had such clever storytelling which made me look forward to the sequel. I felt like this book was a bit of plot in the background of Lilac & Cal moaning about how hard it was to carry on their affair. I felt like it cheapened their relationship from the first book and made them sulky. The eventual defeat of the Aphrasians was well done but the Deian scrolls discovery was a bit of a letdown. All in all, I was left feeling very unsatisfied at how it all ended.
