5/5⭐️ This was one of the best YA books I have read in a long time! The world building is amazing, the magic system was easy to follow and logical IMO, the plot was captivating, and the stakes were well constructed. This would be a great book for fall/spooky season or for anyone that likes their fantasy with a dash of the undead and necromancy. The characters were well written with dialogue that made sense and did not feel stilted. I LOVED Wren and Julian – their friendship (and hopefully more) was well done. Their houses and backstories have depths that I hope the author explores in the second book. Even the side characters are well done: Leo is hilarious and Inara is a bitch (but we love a well written one!). I started the second book immediately after the first one and hope to finish it soon. If the author sticks the landing, I could see myself reading more from her.
