Bill the Vampire by Rick Gualtieri
1.0

The plot is fine and there are funny moments but I just can't get over the complete sexist tone of the whole book, it totally ruined it for me. Every women we meet has her looks evaluated. All women are bitches; "However, the girl, proving that all women are sisters in that they all share a gene that lets them become instant bitches, decided to 'help' the situation along." The female main character seemed to get called bitch every few pages. There are just so many examples of this sort of misogynistic stuff, it's really unpleasant.

It's also established that hotter people are just better in general "The world just has so many more possibilities when you're hot." And that fat women are worth less than thin ones-
“So, by that logic,” Tom cut in, “wouldn't chowing down on a hot swimsuit model be okay?”
I thought about it for a few seconds. “Yeah, I guess so. Hot chicks would definitely be on the menu.”
Ed shook his head. “No. I don’t think so. That would be a waste of some perfectly good ass. They're too rare (at least in our apartment) to kill. You don't hunt endangered species. Killing a hot chick would be like clubbing a baby seal. Not cool.” Damn, he had me there. Score one for logic.
“What if Bill was drunk and it was a fat chick?” Tom asked.
“Your wisdom is sound, my friend. Nobody loses points for an ugly girl if they're hammered at the time,” Ed agreed."

It's also a bit racist in places, it doesn't come up as much- as far as I remember there are only 2 non white characters we come across, "a large African American with a shaved head. A smaller Latino-looking gang banger stood a few feet behind him." are attacking Bill, it just felt like too much of a coincidence that the only non white characters were bad guys attacking him. There's also a dig at foreign taxi drivers. "It was faster and cheaper than a cab, with the added benefit of not having to be yelled at in Arabic." He could have just complained about being yelled at, it just felt unnecessary to specify which language they were yelling in.

It's also homophobic with rape jokes, it's like the author was trying to hit every prejudice.

I really wish I hadn't finished this.
